Dr. Valéry Fradkov

Clinical Social Work/Therapist, LCSW, ScD

Professional Statement

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Work/Therapist (LCSWScD) having earned my Master’s of Social Work at Adelphi University in New York and my Doctorate in Science at the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. My career began in fields as diverse as physics, mathematics, financial modeling, computer simulation, and information processing, where I worked as a theoretical physicist and material scientist at NASA, performed quantitative analysis for major financial institutions like Goldman Sachs and Bank of America, and served as a VP in Software Architecture and Development at a successful technology startup.

I have published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in physics and material science and have taught various university courses in physics, chemistry, materials science, and computer engineering. This background has led me to a unique approach to psychology and interpersonal communication, focusing on the commonalities across disciplines to integrate principles from the hard sciences into psychology.

What Clients Can Expect

In my consultations, I offer guidance on interpersonal issues, relationship counseling, and psychotherapy, drawing upon my extensive background to provide a unique perspective. I focus on the role of verbal and nonverbal messages and emotions in the interpersonal communication process, aiming to create a supportive and understanding environment for my clients. For my distinguished work with teenagers and families, I have been included in the list of NJ’s Favorite Kids’ Docs. My diverse background enables me to apply a scientific approach to psychology, challenging the notion that psychological complexity is inherently distinct from other fields.

Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy and counseling is informed by my grounding in physics and computer science, bringing a distinct perspective to the psychological field. I believe that complexity in psychology is relative to the questions posed and that by simplifying concepts, as in the hard sciences, we can gain accurate insights into human behavior and interpersonal relationships. I have developed and validated a theoretical framework that has positively impacted hundreds of lives, and I am dedicated to expanding the reach of these discoveries through the Advanced Psychology Institute. This institute combines educational facilities for training future mental health professionals, a clinical division for practical application, and a research wing for ongoing development and refinement of theories and practices, aiming to bridge the gap between hard science principles and psychological practices for a comprehensive understanding and treatment approach.
